About me
I’ve spent my career working on challenging problems at the intersection of news, data and technology. I’ve led organizational change as a senior newsroom executive, managed teams of both journalists and engineers, and have worked hands-on as a reporter, data journalist and developer in a variety of news organizations.
I was an early leader in applying machine learning, natural language processing and other techniques from data science and artificial intelligence to newsgathering — an interest and skillset I continue to maintain both personally and professionally.
I’m also proud to have worked for many years as an educator, having taught data-driven and investigative journalism at the Missouri School of Journalism, Columbia University and the University of Houston.
In my spare time, I’m an avid climber, mountaineer and endurance athlete. I live in Minneapolis with my wife, Torey, and son, Jack.
